ritmo cubano

gathered, mixed, with a pinch of spice, ready to serve - a great 51 minute long compilation of digitized cuban vinyl by cj plus.

"...digitized by a music producer and a vintage vinyl collector of 2nd or 3rd generation. the mix is put together using a collection of vinyl produced in cuba between 1960 and 1980 and brought to a friendly country of USSR,namely the port of odessa, by the soviet navy marines of the time." music sent to me, and russian sub text translated for me by a lovely ukrainian girl named sasha.

purity ring

i've posted a few things here about the incredible canadian duo purity ring.

finally they have a video for "lofticries".  a little peice of me just died and went to music video nirvana.  and i am still in shock that i have seen this performed live, about 5 feet away from my face [ya i was a crowd-pusher, certainly worth being that asshole!] just one of those songs that gets under your skin in the very best of ways.

a-maze-ing

about a month ago, i took a very lovely festive fall trip with some fantastic ladies. we headed to the cornmaze at riverbreeze farm.

our first assumption was that the maze would be super easy because a. we had a map, b. the walkways were wide and c. there were children racing around [if stupid children can do it, then obviously we could]  we were kinda wrong. we ended up losing our map [much to emma's dismay, thanks kathleen] and getting disoriented so many times that it was actaully pathetic, and we even had to ask about a 'corn-undrum' joke posted along the way. {the answer was 'redneck'.. for any of you fellow corn-mazers that were really confused.}

the day was followed by petting some cute animals and trying out anything we could that was of 'adult' size at the small park. we then drove to a farmers market and filled our stomachs with some tasty homemade treats like fudge, oh-henry squares {AMAZING}, ginger cookies and the likes.

it was a really nice day, and the scenery driving from halifax to truro area is absolutely gorgeous. anyone who's driven that route knows exactly what i'm talking about! it was also nice to introduce new friends to old friends.  here are some pictures :)

do's

i get some people emailing me about what i do to my hair. usually, i don't do anything to it.  but i have a few different methods i use for when i do decide to do something with it.

here is one SUPER EASY trick to manage long locks and give them a bit of a wave, or that 'beach' look as many call it.

- after a shower, towel dry your hair.
- put in some curl enhancing gel [fructice curls & shine curl enhancing gel is what i use] - it gives it a loose
hold and doesn't make it 'crunchy' feeling like extra hold hairspray can
- use a blow drier and as you go take sections of your hair and crumple them up in your hand and hold the
drier to it for a few seconds.
- do this all around your head until your head is dry and VOILA.

**if you don't have gel [which i usually don't], just use hair spray as you go. for dry hair, a blob of regular conditioner works too, and makes it smell super nice.

cat's meow

weeeee love me some flouncy skirts sometimes!

kloset love

i've been on the go a lot lately. had many visitors staying with me at the lovely house in malta, made a quick pit stop to visit my family and friends in portugal, and finally settled into life back in nova scotia, canada. for those of you wondering, i'll be residing here now for the next few months before i hopefully move back to portugal. but now that i am settled in, expect frequent updates. at least every wednesday!

now to the good stuff. i know my closet would be very satisfied with a dress like this with its tasty sorbet colours, and interesting cuts and fabrics, however, my wallet would not. :(  some shorts and earrings by the same designer, kloset.

to the wedding

the late summer season has put me amidst a whirr of wedding frenzy. congratulations to my lovely friend jo and her new husband abner, and to jen & rory as well. coincidentally i happened to find myself reading a book titled To the Wedding by john berger.

a story told by a blind man, who with his enhanced hearing, can perceive moments and feelings happening all over the world. a web of human stories of happiness, lust, sadness, anger, wonder, shock, self-realization and of course, love.  an easy, quick, and beautiful read: a perfect kind of book.

mia

havn't been keeping up to date with MIA but so glad i came across this video. MIA.. i have always wanted to marry you, but now, it is for sure. she is one of the most strong, powerful, gorgeous and influential women who is actually DOING SOMETHING with their fame. she also has damn good style and flow to boot. the video is also incredible [as usual] and was made for female empowerment in the woman to drive movement. the video is beautiful, ironic and quite powerful.

the company was grand; yann, and everyone we met along the way: on the trains, in the hostels,
at the restaurants and of course, in their homes.
which they so humbly and wonderfully welcomed us into.

these are the only pictures of us together, taken by a man who came and stole my camera to take a picture, then gave it back >>^^
